Discuss Agatha All Along

There is no need for me to describe the current state of Disney and Marvel in all their IP's. I also currently hold very negative opinions about who they hire to write scripts, who is their creative teams and how they deliver to us their final product. In my opinion most of the people that work on their movies and shows are incompetent and not smart enough, occupying their positions not because of their actual ability and proven track record, but for reasons that are completely irrelevant to the creative process.

And the irrelevant reasons are mostly social. Some maybe are fun and charismatic individuals, capable of presenting their ideas and sell it to the execs, which themselves are not very bright people. Some of these pseudo creators could be forced into the positions by nepotism or for political reasons too. There are a lot of helicopter parents in Hollywood that can push their talentless offspring into the studios just because they hold high and important positions in agencies, other studios and in any parts of the movie industry. Usually these people have nothing to do with the IPs and just make up their own crap.

In any case, while we all hope that this low phase of Marvel's hirings would be over soon so we can all see the creative power returning to people that actually care about the franchises, this Agatha show is a first step into the right direction. And it is visible from the first seconds of the first episode, that someone finally knows what they are doing. I was even ready to see entire show about Agnes O'Connor as a detective in a small town, in a spirit of Mare of Easttown, completely forgetting it is a Marvel show. But then Marvel came through and it was better than expected.

The writing is solid and to the point, the dialogs are well structured and carry relevant information, the plot is not very complex but constructed very well, creating tension, suspense, interest and just general curiosity. The cinematography is really good and feels very professional, the planning of the scenes and the shots in each are done by people that know how to do this seamlessly by a high standard. The acting is also on a high level. Aubrey Plaza is always a delight, swinging her charisma and energy like a baseball bat, hitting homeruns like crazy. Kathryn Hahn is a superb actor as well, completely controlling all the scenes with her presence and facial expressions, outperforming even most optimistic expectations. Not sure yet how to feel about Loke, I guess he carries some importance to the story so we'll see how he does overall. Other support team is very good too.

I know it's only two episodes so far, the show can crumble and collapse very fast, but from what I've seen so far I like it. This is what Marvel's show should be, a well written, compact, conceptual glimpses into the MCU and it's lore. Maybe this show can indicate that Marvel finally realize what they should do, although for the entire world it was already clear after Netflix's Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Punisher. But never too late to catch up on what is the right thing to do and adapt. And seeing how suddenly Marvel considers these great shows as a beacon, after initially dismissing them with contempt, maybe someone in Marvel got some brains. It doesn't have to be heavy and serious shows like what I mentioned, it could be a light and comedic show like Agatha, what is important is the serious approach and handling the source material with the correct intentions.

I know that many youtube critics still bomb this show with bad reviews, but so far I disagree with them. They just continue on inertia of the previous hate, which was well deserved by Marvel, completely misevaluating this show just because they don't want to go against the flow of their peers. Hope this show will prove them wrong and continue to hold high level of writing, and be successful too. We all need Marvel to get back on the horse. The live one, not the dead one they were beating for the last couple of years.
