Discuss Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Been over 25 years since the original. I discussed on this website how like 25 years is the maximum you can have between one film and the very next one in a film series.

You do realize this is a thread about "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", right? Here you are talking about 44 years later and Carradine and Jimmy Stewart...

It is perfectly on topic as an another example of worthless, way-too-late, false, invalid sequels. And an excellent example it is. Nobody watching 'It's a Wonderful life' should ever feel they saw or can see the further adventures of Clarence the Angel with Carradine's lousy cable film. Fortunately, very few do.

After all these decades a sequel!?! Let's see that would be like making a sequel to a 1948 movie starring say Humphrey Bogart and others in 1986. Would have been considered totally ridiculous back then. This should be considered equally totally ridiculous and not cannon.

That's not exactly apples to apples; Bogart had been dead for three decades in `86, Key Largo wasn't as popular or profitable as Beetlejuice is, and a sequel to The Hustler was released in 1986, 25 years after the original. I could see an 80s Miracle on 34th St or It's a Wonderful Life sequel being greenlit if the original cast had been alive and willing; Maureen O'Hara even mentioned a script for a sequel to "Miracle" in her autobiography she was interested in that disappeared. It would have to be something firmly in the public's conscious, not a Key Largo 2 without Bogie (or a theoretical 86-year-old one). Beetlejuice is still popular, just go to any Halloween store.

Clarence isn't the only older example of a late sequel; National Velvet got a sequel in the 70s, the eighties had The Color of Money, Psycho II, and made for TV Dirty Dozen sequels among others. The 90s gave us The Two Jakes, Texasville, The Odd Couple 2, and To Sir with Love 2. The world's used to it; A Christmas Story Christmas, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Bill and Ted 3, Beetlejuice 2, Top Gun Maverick, Blade Runner 2049, Rambo, Rocky Balboa, Pee-Wee's Big Holiday, Halloween 2018, Cobra Kai, Ash vs The Evil Dead... most of these are pretty decent and I thought the last two Ghostbusters movies were fine, but the second one was unnecessary.

Is there anything you have against Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice other than the amount of years since the first?
