Bad Santa or X rated It?

Half way through this and I can't help wondering why the director decide to take the Christmas route. I've seen and enjoyed both terrifier movies so far, so why put Art the clown in a Santa suit. They may as well have created a new demented Santa slasher. Maybe things will change. Just half way in but still nothing to match the brutal kill in part 2. You know the one.
